Are you addicted to flickr like I am? Do you love Pink Ink Studios and use our product?? Then if you’re not already, you should join our Friends of Pink Ink flickr group there and add your photos to our gallery where you used Pink Ink product! It’s fun and easy and if you do that then you’ll automatically be in the running for our Photo of the Month contest and if chosen, you could win a gift certificate to use in the Pink Ink store. Easy enough right?! Kari Dawson did just that and her photo caught my eye right away and was chosen as our Photo of the Month for March! She used Holly’s vintage frame to compliment the vintage feel of her baby photo perfectly. It’s amazing how something so simple can make such an impact! You can find various frames such as this in the Pink Ink store and one similiar to the one Kari used is available in the Vintage Frame Set #6. Congrats Kari!

Gallery Feature::Maternity sessions

There’s no such thing as “maternity season” in photography, but there have been some really impressive maternity sessions posted lately in the Pink Ink Flickr Group. I love the feel of this session by Andrea Blair Photography – very modern with the black and white and punch of color.

Andrea says:

I love #1 for many reasons but it’s the comfortable and calm look on the mom-to-be’s face that gets me. Their home had many great areas and the light was always different everywhere I went. I picked the bedroom because of the wonderful light and fairly neutral color. After a snoop through her closet she settled with this wonderful fuchsia top that made her “pop”.

I used a 50mm 1.4 and 28mm 1.4 for this entire session on my 5D.

And then there was this urban session by Ashley Thompson Photography. Such a great location, and she got some beautiful shots of mom-to-be.

Gallery Feature::Sara Pearcy

Today’s gallery feature comes from Sara Pearcy. I adore TtV frames, and when you don’t have the time or patience to make your own TtV setup, the faux frames (here and here in the store) are the way to go!

Where was the shot taken?
I’m in Brisbane, Australia and the shot was taken at “The Powerhouse” – an old, brick powerstation that has been turned into an arts and entertainment venue. It’s an awesome place for photography.

What camera settings did you use?
1/200sec at f/7.1 with ISO 400

What gear (camera, lens etc) did you use?
Canon 20D with my work-horse 24-70mm f/2.8L lens @ 32mm.

What was your lighting set-up?
The shot is taken outside, in a huge open area, at around 10am. It was a pretty average day with lots of clouds and unpredictable darkness – it stormed later on.

Why did you compose the shot as you did?
The original photo has a lot more empty space to the left of Nicholas. I love the texture of the bricks and the grunginess of the marks and bolts on the wall. Most of my children photography is taken at either that low level or a really high, unusual level. This just suited the low, eye-level shot.

What post production work have you done on the shot (if any)?
I went to town on this image. It’s my favourite from the day’s shoot. It started with Holly’s Basic actionsDefog, a brightening action and Sparkle Eyes – then I added my own Rich Pop type action and finished off with blending a faux TtV image at Multiply.

What were you hoping to achieve with the shot?
The whole shoot was just for a bit of fun. I realised I had hundreds of photographs of other people’s children, but hadn’t taken many of mine during the year. Nicholas is (for the moment) the youngest of three children, so he had somehow missed out on getting lots of photos taken. I wanted something that grabbed his personality and showed why he is different from my other two. I’m due with my fourth baby in January ‘09, so I am determined to get back into the habit of recording my own children as much as other people’s.

What do you love about the shot?
I love Nicholas’ cheeky little grin and whole body language. I am completely biased, but I think he is gorgeous! I also love the textures of the wall and ground.

What story is there to tell with this shot?
Nicholas had had enough and wanted to sit, so I took advantage of it and got down low to keep at eye level. We’d just cracked a joke about his black toenail (barely visible in shot). For a four year old, he has an awesome sense of humour!

Anything else?
I now have this photo printed at 20×20″ and ready to hang on my wall with a stack of other 20×20″ shots. I think this one will be the centre piece!

Thanks so much for sharing Sara! We’d love to see that wall when it’s all hung.

Gallery Feature::Desiree Hayes Photography

Check out this sweet image I found in the Friends of Pink Ink Studios Flickr group, by the lovely Desiree Hayes. From the great black and white conversion with a touch of vintage, to that *amazing* sunflare – I’m totally in love with that flare – she sure captured a sweet moment and made it even sweeter. Here’s some info from Desiree:

• Where was the shot taken? At a destination wedding in Issaquah, WA
• What camera settings did you use? manual ISO 160, 28 mm lens at 1.8, shutterspeed 200
• What gear (camera, lens etc) did you use? Canon 5D 28mm 1.8 lens
• What was your lighting set-up? wedding reception, about an hour before sunset
• Why did you compose the shot as you did? They were laughing and making jokes about each other and I loved their expressions.
• What post production work have you done on the shot (if any)? In LR I used a preset called B/W vintage (dont remember which set it’s from though) and then in photoshop I added a bit of a blueish tint and did USM of 14/40/3
• What were you hoping to achieve with the shot? capture memories of their day for their wedding
• What do you love about the shot? the expression. I don’t care one bit about “breaking rules” if you can capture the “moment”
• What background info or story was there when taking the shot (or before or after)? One of the bridesmaids made a joke about her husband (standing next to her) and it was sort of a funny insult. Everyone instantly cracked up. LOL

Great shot Desiree, and thanks for sharing!

Corkscrew Swamp photo by Heather Green

While there are so many terrific and creative images that can be found in the Friends of Pink Ink flickr gallery found here http://flickr.com/groups/friendsofpinkink/ this particular photo by Heather Green really caught my eye.  I think the colors & general feel of the photo just instantly put me in the mood for fall!  I can just imagine myself strolling down the path on a nice cool fall afternoon.  To enhance her photo, Heather used Holly’s vintage frame found here http://pinkinkstudios.com/store/product.php?productid=334&cat=25&page=2 and one of the Retro Lightroom Presets found here http://pinkinkstudios.com/store/product.php?productid=571&cat=3&page=1.  If you post your images on flickr and use Pink Ink products on your image, be sure and add them to the Friend of Pink Ink flickr group and perhaps your photo will be featured here next!

I am loving this image by Carrie Ann Photography! She used The Buffalo Lightroom/ACR preset from the Road Trip set. This is my “go to” black and white preset…but back to the photo…it have a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s mixed with “Grease” feel to me….I think this needs to be on a canvas (but that is just me!)

Sassy
