Black, White, and stunning! — User’s Choice

All of the entries for last week’s User’s Choice awards were stunning — it was definitely a good competition for black and white entries.

I love the coolness of all the chrome and sleek blue in this classic car seen at a car show. – Sheri

Here is what is cool to me. When I first found out I was pregnant my husband and I were elated. We’d been trying to “make” a family for over a year. Greg has always talked about his “son” and how they’d play ball together and he’d get to teach him so many things. Then we found out we’d be having a little girl join the family. At first he was a little nervous saying things like, “I’ve never imagined myself with a daughter”, and, “what will I do with a girl?” But when Naomi was born all that changed. She wrapped daddy around her little finger from the begining. It is amazing to see the way they have bonded. Now that she’s a little older it’s so great to see her reaction when daddy comes home from work. She crawls as fast as she can just to get in his arms and give him a kiss. It is one of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed. They have great love for one another and it’s just awesome. So here is one of my favorite pictures of the two of them, right after Greg gave Naomi a bath (she loves her baths)! Thanks for looking at what is cool to me!! – Jamie

I love Pirate cruises (see my blog for info about this picture http://dineaphoto.blogspot.com ) It is a canon battle and we won, we rode on the merchant ship from the Pirates of the Carribean. – Dinea 

I took this picture of my nephew, Jackson and it came out pretty cool and I think he is WAY COOL – Tara 

We are staying at Bear Lake in Garden City, Utah… until the project my husband is working on is complete (probabably May – June),  This place is amazing!!! – Barabara

Type of Pictures You Take… modern.simple.fresh. that’s my line! My style of photography is very relaxed and somewhat editorial. I love everyday shots of everyday kids. Nothing dressed up or posed or formal. I try to connect with each subject and capture the true essense of their personality.

Your Camera… I use the Canon 5D with the 24-70mm 2.8 and the 85mm 1.2 lenses

Your Favorite Camera Equipment… I love my over the shoulder tamrac camera bag…the perfect size for my 5D and two lenses and all the other gadgets I need to carry with me. I am also planning to get a super cool camera strap from myfunkycamera.com very soon.
If you could only use one lens what would it be? My 85mm 1.2…big splurge but worth every penny.

How do you stay motivated? Since I am new to the business part of photography, everthing is fresh and exciting right now. I think in the future it will help that I am working with young kids, and no photoshoot is ever the same. People ask me how I continually come up with new ideas, and the answer is I don’t! Each child and each session is different, so even if we are shooting in the same spot, each image will be unique!

How long have you been a photographer? I have been experimenting with photography since my first child was born…so about 12 years. I got more serious about it a year ago when I had the grand idea [or it was suggested to me] to turn my hobby into a career. My business officially started this past summer and it has been quite a ride so far! I am overwhelmed and humbled by all of the interest.

If you could choose anyone to do a photoshoot of you/your family, who would your choose? Hands down…Audrey Woulard. I went to her workshop this summer and she is absoultely fabulous..not only as a photographer but also in terms of what she shares with those of us just breaking into the photography business. I can’t say enough about what she has done for my career…another one of those splurges that will probably be one of my best business decisions ever!

Magazine Must Have… I’m a little bit of a magazine freak….Currently I subscribe to Rangefinder, Cottage Living, Oprah, Country Home, Professional Photographer, Country Living, Better Homes & Gardens, Domino, and Blueprint…but the one I really should have a subscription to is People since I always break down and buy one at the checkout lane for all the juicy Hollywood gossip. [I had no idea I got that many magazines!]

Guilty Pleasure...The Hills on MTV and frozen Butterfingers…and both at the same time? Even better!

Do You Read Your Horoscope? No way

Blog Addiction…I read Audrey’s, Tara Whitney, Jessica Claire and that’s about all. I think the only one I’m obsessed with is my own! I love being able to post a few photos for people very soon after their sessions. With digital photography, everyone wants a little instant gratification…and everybody loves to feel like a rockstar for the day right? It also has been a great way for my clients to get a better feel for my style and personality. So they know exactly what they’re getting when they book a shoot with me.

Tattoos…Umm…maybe someday.

MAC or PC... PC..Love my new Dell Inspiron laptop…the ones where you can choose the color. Guess what color I picked? White

80′s Music… Love it…especially the ballads. Some favorites would have to be Bad English, Air Supply, Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi. One song that ALWAYS brings me right back to Jr. High is Red Red Wine by UB40.

What’s on your iPod? Lots of stuff…but I mostly listen to the country playlist. Especially Kenny Chesney.

Travel Dreams…On the sometime soon list Hawaii…on the someday probably not soon list is anywhere in Europe…. And mission trips to China and Africa.
